DAY 11 Trip To Tucson Arizona 4-30-09

DAY 11, Thursday, 4-30-09, we went down to Arivaca Arizona to visit the La Gitana Cantina.. This year we didn't do the additional 8 miles to the Mexican Border and Janice said that since I was close to Mexico and with the Swine Flu in the area, not to breath.. So join us as I turn blue in the face from not breathing, to honor Janice's order and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE..

So, we head out Eastbound on I-10 to the Arivaca cutoff. Here is Bill on the Interstate

A view off to the North

We take the Arivaca cutoff and stop at the Longhorn Grill in Amado Arizona. We went in to eat,but the electricity had gone out and they were waiting for the Health Department to come and take temp readings and all the health checks so they could reopen...For more on the Longhorn Grill, see this link: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/8417

We left Amado and head to Arivaca & the La Gitana Cantina. Here is the Cantina. For more info, see this link:

This is the ruins of an old bordello that was located next to the cantina

The main drag of Arivaca. At the end of the street you can go right and Sasabe Az and the Mexican border crossing is about 6 miles south.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sasabe,_Arizona

The sign in the La Gitana Cantina

Inside the La Gitana Cantina... The USMC flag is still on the ceiling but I had another brain fart & didn't get a pic of it this year...

On the way back to Tucson, we stop at the Cow Palace and eat lunch..It sits right across the street from the Longhorn Grill.. The Suburban with the green on the side, is a Border Patrol vehicle. And they are everywhere here as well as the checkpoints..
