A January Ride In Texas 1-22-09

Today, Thursday, 1-22-09, started off a little on the chilly side. Russ came by and got me at 0745 hrs (7:45 a.m.) and we rode the bikes to Iowa Park Texas for our weekly Thursday morning breakfast with the other old farts that we had worked with and are now retired. It was 37 degrees. We then went to the Harley shop, met up with some more folks and then rode up to eat catfish at Bill's Restaurant in Waurika, Oklahoma. So scroll on down and check out today's ride and see who showed up. REMEMBER, IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.

Three of us made to ride to breakfast on our bikes. Left to right: my Vulcan (Ms Clone), Russ's Harley (The Black Knight) and Billy's Harley.

Getting ready to leave Iowa Park and head to Red River Harley Davidson in Wichita Falls Texas: Billy by his bike and Russ getting something out of his tour pack.

Kenny by the bikes. Kenny had driven his truck and went back to his house and picked up his Harley. He then met us at Red River Harley Davidson. (http://redriverharley-davidson.com/)

Russ between the Harley's.

Billy had things to do & couldn't ride with us today, so here is a picture of Billy pulling out and departing the area outbound.

As Russ and I headed out, I got this picture of him in my mirror. I was elated and thought I finally got a picture of him not flipping me off. The elation ended when I got home and loaded the pictures on the computer. Click on the picture and you'll see why...But, he is getting good at it and snuck this one in on me....Way to go Russ...You Da Man!!!

Here is another pic of Russ. That is his new Harley leather he bought last month. Pretty sharp looking leather. It has been discontinued by Harley..

As we rolled Northbound on I-44, we got behind this semi. If you look close, you'll see that this is the rear of his trailer that he has painted like the front of his semi. I can imagine some poor guy riding down the freeway with a little buzz on and then rolling up on this...I would love to see the heart monitor readout of the guys heartrate upon taking notice of this..

We stopped at the R.V dealership just down the road from the Harley shop. This is the toy carrier that Russ wants to get to tote his Harley around in on those long hauls. It fits one motorcycle and has sleeping for 2-3. Bathroom, kitchen, shower...the works. It was really nice inside..

And it is a Cherokee Grey Wolf....

We get to the Harley Shop and Kenny arrives. Russ & I had already shed our leathers. It got up to 83 degrees today which is Reason #22 why I live in Texas and not in Michigan. It got up to 26 degrees there today. But to be fair to my brother Bob, who lives there and the rest of the family, the 26 degrees was a heat wave considering last week at this time, the windchill in the Detroit suburbs was a -30 degrees. Yep...MINUS 30 degrees..I think today with the 26 degrees, they broke out the lawn chairs, suntan lotion and lemonade...

We go inside the Harley shop and there is Wendi, my new favorite salesgirl. Jennie, my other favorite salesgirl was laid off a week or so ago. Wendi was busy shining up the showcase glass.

Here is a pic of Wendi & me. She was gracious enough to take a few moments away from the cleaning chores to take a couple of pics.

Before leaving to take care of a customer, Wendi took this picture of the Four Amigo's: Left to right: Me, Russ, Greg & Kenny

Had to make sure my 09 Black Heritage Classic was still there..I get one here in a few months...

Then again, there is this 08 105th Anniversary Edition that I wouldn't mind getting...Only two Anniversary Editions left at the dealership...

The other side of this good looking 08 Harley

Some of the used bikes on the porch of the dealership...

Kenny had the service department put a bigger windshield on his bike and he and Russ went for a spin to check it out. Here they re-enter the parking lot after going up & down US 287. Kenny liked it and may buy it in the near future...

More used Harley's for sale in the parking lot of Red River Harley Davidson.

Christina gets there to ride with us. Her husband, Joe, had to work. Plus tomorrow, Joe is heading up to Maine to go snowmobiling.. That's gotta shock the system going from 83 degrees to MINUS 1000 degrees or whatever it gets way up there....

This is Christina on her new Harley V-Rod...

Christina & Kenny wait for me to quit the picture taking thing so we can leave

We head out to head up to Oklahoma. Russ in the lead , Christina #2, Kenny #3, and Gary #4 (in front of me on the blue & white Harley Ultra Classic)

The long, straight and narrow.....Same line up: Russ, Christina, Kenny & Gary

Christina checking out the menu at Bill's.

Here's Gary. Poor guy couldn't eat anything because of a medical procedure he has to have done tomorrow and he can't have any food in his system...

The group as we get ready to leave Bill's and head back to Texas: Left to Right: Russ, Kenny, Christina & Gary...

We pull out onto Hwy 79 and head South to Texas..

This is the Red River as we crossed the bridge, looking to the East..

Here we are going over the Red River Bridge, leaving Oklahoma in our rear view mirrors and looking at Texas thru our windshields..

I pulled up along side Gary and got him rolling South on TX 79

We kept a pretty tight formation coming back, considering the wind had really picked up and we had a crosswind for most of the ride back. Russ in the lead, Kenny #2, Christina #3 & Gary #4.

I got along side Christina and caught her rolling South on TX 79. She handles that bike with an ease that really amazes me. I would put her up against almost anybody I know that rides and I really believe she could give them a run for their money on a road course, mountains or curves. I have seen her ride on both and I was and am impressed...

Another view of the group as we near Wichita Falls Texas

The last shot of the day as we near Wichita Falls Texas on TX 79. I had a good time today and enjoyed seeing Christina again and meeting Gary. I hope to ride with Gary again soon. He is always welcome on our rides. Christina is now off on Saturdays so she will be with us a lot more often on our weekend runs. Her husband, Joe, will be with us too if and when he ever thaws out from this winter excursion he's goin' on..
